
Michel Shamy is a neurologist and researcher based at The Ottawa Hospital / Ottawa Hospital Research Institute / University of Ottawa in Canada. He holds a BA in history (Yale) and an MA in the history and philosophy of science (Calgary) in addition to his MD (Queen’s) and training in neurology (Toronto), vascular neurology (UCSF) and stroke research (Calgary). His research explores ethical, epistemic and clinical issues in stroke care with a focus on the ethical justification of randomized clinical trials. His work on issues of evidence in research has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, Stroke, and the International Journal of Stroke. He lives in Ottawa with his wife – a palliative care physician – and two sons.
